Minn. man dies when canoe capsizes

Authorities in central Minnesota say a canoe carrying two people capsized on a river, and that a 64-year-old man died. A 4-year-old Arizona boy was saved.

A WCCO-TV report says Crow Wing County deputies responded Sunday afternoon to a report of a capsized canoe and two people in the Gull River north of Baxter.

Local residents heard a cry for help and rescued the boy, who lives in Gilbert, Ariz. He was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital.

Rescue officials pulled the 64-year-old Brainerd man from the river further downstream. He was unresponsive, and efforts to resuscitate him weren't successful. His body was taken to the Ramsey County medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

The man and boy were both wearing life jackets.
