Cash reward in case of decapitated bear
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The reward in the case of a decapitated black bear in St. Croix County has more than tripled.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, someone illegally shot the bear while it was hibernating in a culvert near Star Prairie in February. The DNR says it was dragged to another location and decapitated. The bear was found in the town of Somerset.
The Star Prairie Fish & Game organization originally offered a $500 cash reward. In recent weeks the Mid-State Houndsmen Association, the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association and private parties have increased the reward to $1,750.
The reward is for tips that lead to a conviction. Tips should be made to the DNR.
Wardens say the bear was around 300 pounds, so more than one person was likely involved.
