Jones' ATF confirmation hearing postponed

A scheduled hearing for Minnesota's U.S. Attorney B. Todd Jones' nomination as head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms has been postponed.

President Obama chose Jones for the post in January but his nomination had languished for months until a hearing was scheduled for Tuesday. Now that hearing has been postponed for a week at the request of Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley, who's the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Grassley said neither Jones nor the Obama administration has provided the committee with documents about various ATF operations.

"If we're going to do our job of consenting to the president's nominees, whether they're Republicans or Democrats, you've got to have information," Grassley said. "And you're entitled to that information and you can't conduct a hearing if you don't have the information."

Jones already serves as the acting head of the ATF while also continuing to run the Minnesota U.S. Attorney's office.
