Last April, MPR News reporter Elizabeth Dunbar asked Jim Stark, executive director of the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District, whether the lingering winter might depress this year's mosquito crop. No such luck, he said.

"Stark said the overall population will have more to do with how much rain we get in the next few weeks, so stay tuned," Dunbar wrote. (Emphasis added.)

Sigh. In the two months since he said that, we have indeed gotten a bit of rain.

We check in with epidemiologist Dave Neitzel to see how the mosquito and tick populations are coming along, and what we can expect in the coming months.
