Remembering jazz family matriarch, Jeanne Arland Peterson

Jeanne Arland Peterson, the matriarch of a well-known Twin Cities jazz family, died Sunday at age 91.

Peterson sang and played the piano, starting professionally at age 15 when she was hired to work in then-Dayton's department store in Minneapolis.

A few years ago, MPR News reporter Dan Olson spoke with the musician about how her career began. Here's an excerpt of their conversation.
