Beltrami County man killed in standoff ID'd

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner has identified a Beltrami County man fatally shot Wednesday during a standoff with law enforcement.

Miquell Deppa, 34, died of blood loss due to a gunshot wound.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Beltrami Sheriff's officers responded to a 911 call at Deppa's rural residence. The caller said Deppa had a loaded rifle and was making threats. Deputies on the scene heard gunshots and saw Deppa run into the home with his rifle. Two women ran out of the house.

During the ensuing standoff, Deppa fired shots toward the officers. He later emerged from the house armed with a rifle and was shot by a Beltrami County SWAT sniper. Deppa was flown to a Fargo hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The BCA says it is still investigating the shooting and will present its findings to the Beltrami County Attorney's Office.
