Boy found hanging from clothesline dies

Minneapolis police are investigating the death of a 9-year-old boy who was found hanging from a clothesline last week.

Minneapolis Police Department spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said a neighbor found the boy in the backyard of a home on the city's north side. She said the neighbor applied CPR before paramedics arrived and rushed the boy to the hospital. He was treated over the weekend, and died Monday night.

The boy was visiting from Georgia and staying with his aunt, according to the MPD.

Barrington said members of the department's crimes against children unit are talking to some kids who were playing with the boy that day. She said they are also looking for other witnesses who might help them find out what happened. Barrington calls the incident an absolute tragedy.

The cause and manner of the boy's death will be determined by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
