Man shot dead in south Minneapolis

Minneapolis police say the early morning shooting death of a man on the city's south side was probably not a random act.

Officers responded to a call just after 2:30 a.m. at an apartment complex along Grand Ave. S near Lake Street. Police spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington said the officers found the man in an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

Investigators are interviewing several witnesses, and Barrington said there are indications the shooting was not random. Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to contact the department.

"The public is the best set of eyes and ears that the police department has, so we always encourage that as well," she said.

There are no suspects in custody and no arrests in the case so far.
