New court set up to serve veterans

A new veterans court is taking shape in southern Minnesota, where the Fifth Judicial Circuit is creating a program to serve veterans, in conjunction with veterans' and criminal justice groups.

It's not the first such court in the state; veterans courts are operating in Hennepin, Washington and Anoka Counties. Nationally, an estimated 200 such courts have been established to work with veterans.

Advocates say veterans face unique challenges that demand a unique set of responses. Tom Weber speaks with a Hennepin County Veterans Court judge and an assistant county attorney.
