Portions of crosstown, I-35W, Hwy. 169 closed for repairs this weekend

Construction and some key road closings will challenge Twin Cities drivers this weekend.

Motorists in Minneapolis and Richfield will have to get around without a key stretch of the Crosstown. Highway 62 between Highway 100 and Interstate 35W will close at 10 p.m. tonight in both directions, MnDOT said. Eastbound lanes will stay open to France Avenue to accommodate traffic to Fairview Southdale hospital.

The road is closing for the demolition of the Penn Avenue bridge deck over the highway. It's scheduled to be closed all weekend, and should reopen by 5 a.m. for the Monday morning rush hour. The $1.6 million project will replace the bridge deck and rails and upgrade pedestrian crossings. MnDOT says motorists should use Interstate 494 as an alternate.

Southbound I-35W between Highway 36 in Roseville and Interstate 94 in Minneapolis will also be closed for maintenance from Saturday morning through Monday morning. Motorists will be rerouted onto Highway 280 south to I-94 and west toward downtown Minneapolis.

Northbound U.S. Highway 169 from Highway 55 to Interstate 694 in the western suburbs will also close again this weekend for resurfacing.
