82-year-old man found dead in Cook County

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- An 82-year-old man who went missing earlier this month has been found dead.

Searchers on Sunday found Paul Brandt, who went missing Aug. 1 while picking blueberries along the Gunflint Trail.

Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Prom tells the Duluth News Tribune a family member found Brandt a couple miles from the Gunflint Trail and about a mile from his vehicle.

After days of searching, the Cook County Sheriff's Office had announced Wednesday that it was suspending the formal search. However, friends and family members continued to comb the area.

Prom says it was very rugged terrain so much so that searchers had trouble finding Brandt's location again after leaving to notify others.

An autopsy is expected to determine his cause of death.
