Sherlockians gather in Minn. for conference

About 150 experts of the famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes came from as far as Sweden and Switzerland to gather for a conference in Minnesota.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the Sherlockians have gathered every three years at the University of Minnesota since 1995.

The university is believed to have the largest collection of Sherlock Holmes materials in the world, including four copies of the rare 1887 publication that contained the first appearance of Holmes in print.

The attendees this weekend sat in on talks that ranged from how a loophole in international laws led to an early introduction of Sherlock Holmes into Scandinavian countries, to the role of the British rail system in Holmes stories.
