'Sweetheart swindler' may have struck again
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota man investigators call the ``sweetheart swindler'' is accused once again of stealing from an unsuspecting woman he met online.
A warrant for the arrest of Kent Norman Meyer was issued Tuesday in Ramsey County. A criminal complaint says Meyer promised a 66-year-old St. Paul woman that he would invest the $200,000 in life insurance benefits she had banked from her late husband.
Prosecutors say Meyer instead deposited her checks, which paid for shopping trips to Macy's, Home Depot and Sears. The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the 61-year-old Ham Lake man has a history of swindles dating back to May 1997. He spent five years in prison after he was convicted of swindling another woman.
