Wolf suspected of biting teen tests negative for rabies

A gray wolf that experts suspect bit a 16-year-old boy on Sunday in north central Minnesota has tested negative for rabies.

The Minnesota Department of Health laboratory tested the animal, which was trapped at the West Winnie Campground at Lake Winnibigoshish where the boy was camping.

State Department of Natural Resources officials say they are not certain that the wolf tested at the lab is the same one that bit the boy. But lab workers are testing the boy's shirt and some muscle tissue from the trapped wolf for a DNA match.

The campground was closed for a few days but has been re-opened.
