Investigation ends in deadly squad collision with motorcyclist

The State Patrol has finished its investigation of a fatal accident in May, when a Minneapolis police squad vehicle collided with a motorcycle, killing the rider.

On May 10, officer Joshua Young drove through a red light at 26th Street and Blaisdell Avenue. Ivan Romero, 24, was killed when his motorcycle struck the back of Young's police cruiser, which had its lights on and siren going.

Minneapolis police say results of the accident reconstruction investigation have been sent to the Hennepin County Attorney's office for review.

Young was on his way to the scene of an officer-involved shooting. In that incident, 22-year-old Terrance Franklin died of a gunshot wound after struggling with police in the basement of an Uptown home.

Police have said Franklin was hiding there after fleeing a traffic stop. But they've released few details about what happened pending a separate grand jury investigation.
