Irish writer Kevin Barry follows in his homeland's long literary tradition of linguistic improvisation in his work. His novel "City of Bohane" is written in a language he invented for the novel.

Barry won the IMPAC Dublin Prize, which comes with the largest cash award of any literary award in the world. Published in the U.S. by Minneapolis-based Graywolf press, Barry will read from his novel and his new collection of short stories "Dark Lies the Island" starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at
