Minn. native injured in Afghanistan

The family of a solider from south-central Minnesota says he's recovering after being wounded in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Ranger Tom Block was critically injured Sunday when a homemade bomb went off in southern Afghanistan. The 27-year-old Waseca native is being treated at the hospital in Ramstein, Germany.

A hospital nurse told Block's family that he's alert and responsive. According to his father, Jeff Block of Cleveland, Minn., Block lost his right eye, and his left eye was injured and facial bones were broken.

Block was in critical but stable condition Monday. He is to be transferred Tuesday to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The Free Press of Mankato reports Block was a wrestler at Minnesota State, Mankato, and also wrestled in high school.
