Minnesota's link to prohibition captured in 'American Spirits'
A congressman from Granite Falls, Minn., was the author of legislation that led to the prohibition of alcohol in the United States in 1920. The story of Judiciary Committee Chairman Andrew Volstead is part of an exhibit now on display at the Minnesota History Center.
"American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition," shows what led to the passage of 18th Amendment, the impact of the liquor ban and why it was repealed. MPR's Cathy Wurzer walked through the exhibit while it was still being constructed with Dan Spock, the director of the History Center.
