Obama nominates Luger as US attorney for Minnesota
President Barack Obama has nominated Andy Luger to be the next U.S. attorney for Minnesota.
Luger is an experienced litigator and is in private practice. He's a former federal prosecutor, and has been tapped to lead several independent investigations.
Among them, he reviewed how law enforcement treated protesters at the 2008 Republican National Convention. He also led an investigation that uncovered a series of problems with the Metro Gang Strike Force, recommending that it be permanently disbanded.
Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken recommended Luger for the post in July and announced his nomination Thursday. If confirmed by the full Senate, Luger would succeed B. Todd Jones, who is now director of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Luger had no comment on his nomination.
