Oil boom helps stop trend of declining students
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) _ North Dakota public school officials say the oil boom that has led to dramatic growth in western schools is now helping enrollments in the eastern part of the state.
North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler said it wasn't too long ago when most schools were seeing declining enrollments. She says that's no longer the case.
Baesler tells the Grand Forks Herald (http://bit.ly/17E0ZuA) that many school districts from across the state are growing primarily in the elementary grades. She says there are space problems and other issues with the boom, but calls it a "positive challenge."
