Why Ellison said no to the budget compromise

U.S. Rep Keith Ellison, D-Minn., voted against the much-heralded compromise budget resolution approved by the House.

In a statement released by his office, Ellison said:

"This is a case where 'compromise' in Washington means asking Americans to sacrifice more. Without passing an extension 8,500 Minnesotans will lose unemployment insurance on December 28th, 2013, just three days after Christmas. An additional 39,000 will lose benefits in the first six months of 2014. Federal employees will see a pay cut as they're asked to pay more into their pension plans to support unnecessary deficit reduction. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 'the economic drag in 2014 from a failure to extend [Emergency Unemployment Compensation] is likely to be at least as large as the economic boost from the budget deal.'"

The Daily Circuit checks in with Ellison on the budget deal, what Congress can do about affordable housing and what happened to immigration reform.
