Sheriff: Olmsted County shooting was murder-suicide
A fatal shooting that killed two people in rural Olmsted County on Monday was a murder-suicide, southeast Minnesota authorities said Tuesday.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office identified the victims as 18-year-old Kayla Jill Koranda of Rochester and 19-year-old Nicholas Bryan Roecker of rural Pine Island, Minn.
Both were shot in a shed at Roecker's home in New Haven Township.
Sheriff's officials say both were college students who had attended high school together in Rochester. Officials say the two were friends, but the depth of their relationship is still not know.

Roecker attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and Koranda was a student at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
They both attended and graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester.
"The depth of their relationship is still not known at this time; however it is believed that they were just friends," Olmsted County Sheriff Dave Mueller said in a statement.
"There is no indication that there was a suicide pact of any kind."
Koranda died at the scene and Roecker was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospitals - Rochester, where he later died.
The sheriff's department continues to investigate the incident.
