Woman charged in husband's overdose death

A Twin Cities area woman is charged with murder in her husband's overdose death.

A criminal complaint filed in Washington County says 44-year-old Jennifer Marie Johnson told police she filled up a syringe and gave her husband 30 to 40 milligrams of her methadone after he had consumed some beer in March of last year.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as "mixed drug toxicity." Johnson is charged with third-degree murder in the death of her husband identified as DKP in the complaint. It says he was in full cardiac arrest when he was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

WCCO-TV reports a conviction carries a maximum 25 years in prison.
