Woman's body found frozen in St. Paul; police investigate

Authorities in St. Paul are investigating whether cold weather played a role in the death of a woman outside near Yorkshire and Cleveland on Monday morning.

St. Paul police spokesman Paul Paulos says paramedics were called to the scene where the woman was found outside about 7:30 a.m.. The 58-year-old victim was pronounced dead shortly after. The temperature at the time had dipped to 16 below zero.

Investigators are trying to determine if a medical condition might have lead to her death and whether exposure might have contributed.

"We did an initial investigation. There was no foul play. There's no proof that she froze to death at this point, and she was dressed for the elements," he said. "It won't be determined, her actual cause of death, until the medical examiner takes a look at the body and comes up with that finding."

Two other people have died in Minnesota's arctic cold this winter, including a woman in Lakeville in December and man in McLeod County, also found Monday.
