Lottery Director: online scratch-off to go live this week

Later this week, Minnesota is set to become the first state to let lottery players scratch tickets online.

The Minnesota Lottery plans to unveil a virtual scratch-game that uses a computer mouse rather than a coin to reveal winnings. Users will have to sign in to a virtual wallet in order to play. Online scratch tickets are used in some parts of Europe and Canada.

MPR's Phil Picardi spoke with the executive director of the Minnesota Lottery Ed Van Petten about taking the lottery online.
