Savage woman struck by truck in Minneapolis dies

Caitlin Barton, a 25-year-old woman from Savage, has died after being struck by a truck in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

She had been in critical condition after the incident, which took place shortly after dark on Wednesday. Police said the truck was heading south on Market Plaza, a short street that connects Excelsior Boulevard and West Lake Street on the north side of Lake Calhoun.

The truck turned onto West Lake Street and the truck hit Barton, then dragged her about a quarter block down the street. The DHL delivery truck was reportedly being driven by a contract courier, and police said that Barton had the right of way at the time.

Fire officials told KSTP TV that she'd suffered serious head injuries when the truck hit her. Police said that the driver was cooperating with the investigation and that they didn't believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.
