Cass County administrator to remain on job

The chairman of the Cass County Commission says no immediate disciplinary action is planned against County Administrator Keith Berndt.

Berndt is charged with two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault against a minor in neighboring Moorhead, Minn. His attorney, Lisa Borgen, says no assault occurred and Berndt will plead not guilty.

Commissioner Ken Pawluk tells KFGO radio that the situation is "unfortunate" but that no disciplinary action against Berndt will be considered until more information is available.

Berndt is due in court March 25.

The 53-year-old Berndt has been administrator of North Dakota's most populous county the past three years.
