Independence Party candidate announces bid for governer
Glen Menze, an accountant from Rochester, announced his campaign Saturday morning at the Independence Party's First District Congressional Convention in Rochester.
His goals are to reduce the amount of special interest money being spent on politics and create a more stable budget for the state, he said.
Menze said he knows it could be difficult to beat DFL Governor Mark Dayton in November, but he thinks voters are uneasy about the direction of the state.
"I know incumbency is hard to beat but in a vigorous three way race, we can only see what the people of Minnesota end up wanting to have in the end. And I think the polls are showing things are quite volatile across the nation and here in Minnesota so I look forward to the debates on issues," he said.
Menze lost two bids for Congress against DFL Congressman Colin Peterson. He ran as a Republican in 2008 and as an I-P candidate in 2010.
