Winter storm this big unusual in April

"If you can work from home today, it probably isn't a bad idea," MPR Meteorologist Mark Seely told MPR News' Morning Edition this morning.

An April snow event of this scope is "somewhat unusual." He added, "In the metro area 4" snows happen in April about 1 year out of 5."

Northeast Minnesota regularly sees heavy snow in April about 90% of the time. Although, Seely said Duluth's snowfall last year of 50.8" last April "was something else."

"Take heart," he added. "Next week: 55 and 60 degree highs are going to feel great. They will be here midweek or towards the later part of the week."

Wurzer asked if this is the last snow of the winter. Seely couldn't say for sure, but said he expects this April to be wetter than average, "We are going to see more precipitation this month, hopefully it will be in the form of rain. "
