Knight Foundation to accept applications for Arts Challenge

The Knight Foundation will start accepting applications Monday for its $1.5 million Arts Challenge in St. Paul.

That's when applications open for the Knight Foundation Arts Challenge. They are looking for the best ideas possible from inside the community, said The foundation' s vice president for arts Dennis Scholl.

"The wonderful thing about the Knight Arts Challenge is that we as a foundation are not proscriptive. We want the community to tell us what is it they want to see more of in St Paul artistically," Scholl said.

The contest's three rules require the project to be about the arts, to be in or benefit St. Paul, and for successful candidates to match the Knight grant dollar for dollar. The on-line application is designed to be user friendly, with a 150 word limit on the form. Winners will be announced in September.

Community meetings will be held around St. Paul next week for people to ask questions about the challenge.
