Pipeline leaks production fluid in western ND

About 560 barrels of production fluid have leaked from a pipeline into a drainage system in western North Dakota.

The North Dakota Department of Health says the spill happened in Billings County approximately 10 miles south of Medora.

Oklahoma-based Continental Resources operates the pipeline. State officials say the company reported that the fluid leaked from a pipeline into a dry drainage, and some of the material reached a flowing drainage.

Officials say that approximately 100 barrels of fluid had been recovered as of Saturday afternoon. Berms have been built on the site to prevent fluid from flowing elsewhere.

State inspectors are scheduled to be on site Sunday to test the water and soil.
