Two women were stabbed early Monday morning as they walked home from downtown, according to Minneapolis Police.
Shortly after midnight, police were called to the scene where a man had allegedly demanded money from the women, and then stabbed them, spokesman Scott Seroka said.
The women suffered non-life threatening wounds and were in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center early Monday, he said. Police aren't disclosing the details of the injuries. The incident took place at University Avenue and Hennepin Avenue, just north of downtown, according to Seroka.
Police believe the motive was robbery and are in search of a suspect, believed to be a black male, he said.
"We can say that this is kind of a rare and unusual occurrence," Seroka said. "There's no pattern here. It appears to be a completely random crime. It's quite unusual."
