50 years ago, Louie Armstrong upended Beatles with 'Hello Dolly'

Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago today, when the Beatles finally lost their spot at the top of the U.S. pop charts. For 14 straight weeks, a succession of three hit songs kept the Fab Four in the number one position. And it was the song "Hello Dolly" that ended their unprecedented chart domination. Louie Armstrong recorded it to help promote the musical which had just opened on Broadway. It would become the biggest hit of his career. He was also the oldest performer to have a number one hit during the rock era.
