Human bones found in a Lakeville, Minn. park by high school students on a field trip Thursday have been identified as the remains of a 50 year-old man who has been missing for two years.
Christopher Marc Bellino was reported missing to the Lakeville Police Department on Aug. 3, 2012. Police later found his car at a Target store about two miles away.
Bellino's skull was discovered by Lakeville high school students on a field trip to Ritter Farm Park as part of a navigating exercise with the Minnesota Army National Guard. Police found other parts of the remains in nearby areas.
Lakeville Police Department Captain Kevin Manias said investigators do not suspect foul play.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, which identified the remains, will release a more detailed report about Bellino's cause of death.
"The main thing we're waiting for is a report from the medical examiner's office to determine manner and cause of death if they're able to establish that," Manias said. "That will help direct our investigation from there."
Bellino was last seen on July 29, 2012 when he went to dinner with his daughters, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
