Metro Transit authorities are reminding drivers to use extra caution along the Green Line after a third crash between a motorist and a train this week.

A driver turned into the side of a train near Highway 280 on Friday morning. No one was hurt, but authorities say drivers need to get used to accommodating rail traffic as train schedules pick up ahead of a June 14 opening.

Transit officials say drivers and pedestrians need to heed lights and warnings in the rail right of way, and realize that train traffic may be coming from behind them, and could be moving in two directions at once.

"The intent of this period (before the line opens) is to familiarize the operators, fine tune the signalization and to let motorists and pedestrians know, through experience, what its like to have trains running in the corridor," said John Siqveland a spokesman for Metro Transit.

The Green Line trains run the 11 miles between Target Field and Union Depot, most of it along busy University Avenue.
