Was she right to drive drunk to save her life?

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the revocation of a woman's driver's license for drunken driving even though she was fleeing her abusive spouse. A divided court said it is the job of the Legislature, not the courts, to carve out exemptions to public safety laws.

The case pitted a person's right to individual safety against the danger that person could pose to others. Former Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner will talk with Tom Weber about implications the ruling might have and how prosecutors weigh such conflicting interests.
