Funeral services for Ziolkowski to begin Monday

The funeral services for Crazy Horse Memorial leader Ruth Ziolkowski will begin Monday in Custer.

A public viewing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the studio of the original log home built by Ziolkowski and her husband in 1948.

Ziolkowski died Wednesday of cancer at age 87. She had taken over leadership of the Black Hills tourist attraction that honors Native Americans upon the 1982 death of her husband, sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski.

Memorial spokesman Mike Morgan says a celebration of life is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Morgan says admission fees to the memorial will be waived during the scheduled events.

The memorial draws over a million visitors to the southern Black Hills annually and brings in millions of dollars every year, mainly through admission fees.
