Feds arrest 11 non-citizens in Minn. for crimes

Federal immigration authorities arrested 11 people in Minnesota last week as part of a three-state crackdown on criminals who are in the country illegally.

The operation resulted in the arrests of a total of 33 people from states that also included Iowa and Nebraska. Officials called it a routine operation that focused on people with criminal convictions.

All were "criminal aliens whose crimes included drug distribution, sexual assault, weapons offenses, aggravated assault, robbery, domestic assault, fraud and some multiple DUI cases," said Shawn Neudauer, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Most of the Minnesota arrests took place in the Twin Cities, he added.

ICE deported nearly 369,000 people nationwide in fiscal year 2013, though the agency on Wednesday was unable to provide a breakdown for Minnesota.
