How Andy Williams influenced the hit 'My Guy'

Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago this week when "My Guy" by Mary Wells was the number one song on the pop charts.

When it was recorded, the studio musicians were having trouble figuring out how to start the song until someone pointed out that the opening measure of another song could be easily juxtaposed on the intro's chord changes.

The song was "Canadian Sunset" which was a hit for Andy Williams in 1956. It worked well as the intro to "My Guy" and Mary Wells had her first and only number one song.
