Kerri's book Pick of the Week is "Midnight in Europe," a new spy thriller from Alan Furst.
The book, like many of Furst's, is set in pre-World War II Europe. This time, his hero is a Spaniard working in Paris while his own country is in the midst of civil war.
"There's an Old World feel to (Furst's) stories, the result of extensive research and a clearheaded understanding of the interlocking nature of the period," writes Chris Foran of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Although the Spanish Civil War is in the background of much of the action, that conflict's ripples are felt everywhere, from a dance hall in Berlin to a rail yard in Poland to a port in Romania."
