High water warnings in Minn. this weekend

Authorities are warning Minnesotans about high water on lakes and rivers this weekend.

Firefighters in Stearns County had to rescue a man who was paddling on the Sauk River after his canoe capsized Thursday night in fast-moving water. Two other men were thrown into the water but made it to shore.

The third man swam to an island and held onto branches until he was rescued.

Lakes are high and rivers are running fast in Minnesota now and officials are urging swimmers and boaters to use extra caution.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has instituted a no-wake zone on the St. Croix River from Taylors Falls to Prescott, Wis., one of the busiest stretches of the river for recreational boating.

The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District also has instituted speed and wake restrictions on the entire lake until further notice. The lake reached record levels this week after torrential rain storms in the area last weekend.
