Former President Bill Clinton will be at the University of Minnesota Monday to receive an award from the Humphrey School and deliver a speech at Northrop Auditorium on civil rights issues.

Clinton will receive the Dean's Award for Public Leadership, which event organizers describe as an honor given to individuals who have made important contributions in promoting the common good.

Humphrey School dean Eric Schwartz said the event is also part of an ongoing series to mark the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act.

"He has spoken about his love for Hubert Humphrey. He has spoken about the fact that the civil rights movement had a profound impact on him and his commitment to public life. So, I expect that his comments will focus largely on those challenges, and we're delighted that they will," Schwartz said.

Proceeds from the ticketed event will help fund student scholarships at the Humphrey School.
