Green Line train, car collide in Minneapolis
A car and a Green Line test train collided in downtown Minneapolis Sunday night, according to Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland.
No one was seriously injured. The woman driving the car was evaluated on the scene and released, and the rail operator was not injured. The car was travelling south on Portland Ave. S and the northbound test train was headed toward Target Field. The two collided in the intersection of Portland Ave. S. and S. 5th Street.
Details on how the collision happened will be released after a police investigation, Siqveland said. He said it was not a head-on collision, but there was damage to the front of both vehicles. The car was towed from the scene and there was minor damage to the train.
The crash took place around 10:40 p.m. and the train was able to leave the scene after about an hour, Siqveland said. There was no major disruption to rail service, he added.
The Green Line launches Saturday, June 14.
