Friday Festivals: Cheese Curd Festival
This week's exploration of the upper Midwest's many summer festivals brings us to Ellsworth, Wis., where they're celebrating cheese curds.
The Director of Ellsworth's chamber of commerce, Sarah Ries, spoke with MPR News' Tom Crann about the festival -- and how Ellsworth became the cheese curd capital of Wisconsin.
The festival starts Friday and goes through Sunday -- and if you've been wanting to try cheese curd pizza or cheese curd baked potatoes, you're in luck. There will also be a cheese curd eating contest.

Another food capital is celebrating this weekend. Le Mars, Iowa, the self-proclaimed Ice Cream Capital of the World, will be hosting a festival to celebrate its favorite flavors.
Farmington, Minn. is hosting its "Dew Days", with events such as bed racing, where one person has to stay on a bed on wheels while his or her teammates push it as fast as they can.
And Brookings, South Dakota is all about bikes and kites this weekend, at its "Bikes and Kites Festival" on Saturday and Sunday.
