Police: Reservist accidently shot by roommate

A member of the Minnesota Air Reserve was shot in the thigh by one of his roommates in a Richfield apartment earlier this week, according to charges filed in Hennepin County District Court.

Police say Krystian Alexander Molina, 22, and the unnamed victim — a member of the 934th Airlift Security Forces Squadron on active duty — were playing around when Molina "accidentally discharged" a gun.

According to the complaint, the victim had been teaching Molina and two other roommates skills that would help them prepare for the military. Molina and the victim allegedly started a play fight in the apartment. The victim grabbed a collapsible baton and Molina found the victim's gun in a desk.

"He [Molina] did not think it was loaded," according to the complaint. "The victim hid around a corner of the kitchen with the baton. He laughed and then jumped around the corner and yelled, 'attack.'"

Police say the bullet fractured the victim's femur. Molina is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. His public defender did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
