Friday Festivals: Water Ski Days

This week's exploration of the upper Midwest's many summer festivals brings us to Lake City, Minn., for the 43rd annual Water Ski Days Festival.

The water ski shows have been canceled, but there will still be a carnival, parade and live music from the Lovin Spoonful.

Other festivals coming up

The Twin Cities Jazz Festival is going on Friday and all day Saturday in Mears Park in Lowertown St. Paul.

It's also the weekend of the Twin Cities Pride Festival, and that means lots of events celebrating the LGBT community. Main attractions include the festival in Loring Park going on Saturday and Sunday, and the parade starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Those events are free and open to everyone.

And Sunday is also the Minnesota Food Truck Fair in Uptown. More than 35 food trucks will gather in Minneapolis with their mobile fare. In other parts of Minnesota, the Betsy-Tacy Society will be hosting their "Deep Valley Homecoming" in Mankato to celebrate the book series written by Maud Hart Lovelace.

The Midwest Viking Festival is teaming up with the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival to present a celebration full of food, archery, and - wait for it - historically accurate chickens. That's in Moorhead through Saturday.
