Two killed, three injured in separate north Minneapolis shootings

Two people were killed and three others wounded in two separate early morning shootings in north Minneapolis.

About midnight police found a man dead inside a home in the 3400 block of Dupont Avenue N. in Minneapolis, police spokesman Scott Seroka said. Two other men who were shot suffered non-life threatening injuries.

About 5 a.m., police responded to reports of gun shots in the 2600 block Third Avenue N., which is about one mile away. One woman was killed and another woman seriously injured.

The homicides are the 15th and 16th committed in the city so far this year. In north Minneapolis, reports of shootings are up nearly 50 percent over this same period last year.

Seroka said the two shootings do not appear to be connected. He said investigators do not believe the shootings were random.

The department is looking for help from the public to identify the suspected shooters. Anyone with information of the crimes or who knows suspects or witnesses is urged to call Minneapolis Police at 612-692-TIPS (8477).
