Body of man recovered from St. Croix River

Authorities pulled a drowning victim from the St. Croix River at the Point Douglas Beach near Hastings Sunday night.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said a 40-year-old man was in a designated swim area on the beach when he called out for help and disappeared into the water.

Bystanders, firefighters and police joined the search for the man. A diver found his body in about 10 feet of water about an hour and a half after he was reported missing.

Authorities have not named the victim yet. The body was turned over to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
