The bridge replacement is part of an upgrade for the freeway north of downtown St. Paul that will include a new MnPASS lane.

Mndot is trying several new techniques on the project, including building complete bridges and later pushing them into place over the road.

The bridge at Larpenteur is the latest effort. It was supposed to be slid into place yesterday, but the equipment moving the span broke down. They tried again last night without completely closing the freeway.

The effort was successful. The bridge is in place and rush hour traffic is back to the Interstate.
