Minn. man jumps in water after grandkids, dies

A 60-year-old Janesville, Minn. man died Friday after he jumped into a northeastern Minnesota lake to help his young grandchildren.

Douglas Yentsch was at a family cabin on Nichols Lake about 35 miles northwest of Duluth. St. Louis County Sheriff's deputy Mike McDougall said Yentsch had been pulling an inner tube with his two young grandchildren behind a paddle boat.

"The grandkids had flipped over off the inner tube and were wearing lifejackets at the time but were still panicked," McDougall said.

Family members told authorities the man had limited swimming ability. Yentsch was not wearing a life jacket. Emergency crews were not able to revive him after he was pulled from the lake.
